Matt 22:36-38 says: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
It seems from Jesus’ response that Gods greatest desire for me is to LOVE him. To truly LOVE him!
Here’s the problem about love and being allpowerful. God must set aside his power and come to us humbly and ask for our love. It must be given voluntarily and without the use of force or love is destroyed.
How does Sabbath Teach Me To Love GodLets look at this closer
Love must be GIVEN voluntarily or it is not truly love.
True Love cannot be coerced.
It cannot be created.
It cannot be manipulated.
For my love to be real, I must voluntarily give it to God.
So God, being the gentleman that He is, chooses to limit himself because He wants TRUE love from me.
So if God cannot create Love, How does God ask me to show him Love?
1 John 5:3 says: In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,
If the definition of loving God is to keep to his commandments, Is it possible for God to FORCE me to obey His commandments?
If God forces me to obey his commandments, will their still be LOVE in our relationship?
Or in other words, can God force me to show love towards him?
From the beginning of time, God has had a serious problem. He couldn’t create what he wanted most. So what did God give us that would encourage Love towards him in the way that God wanted to be loved?
Sabbath seems to be an amazing tutor to teach us how to love God.
It’s almost as if Sabbath comes along and ask the questions,
Chad, will you surrender to God and Love him?
Will you surrender your thoughts, your actions, your pleasures, and your focus to point your whole being towards Him?
Will you give a day to God just to show him your love?
Sabbath seems to be the tutor responsible to produce what God wants most from me, to love Him in absolute surrender to His ways!
So as I approach the Sabbath, I have to examine myself, do I love my God as He wants to be loved?
